The Mastering Maths research study builds on the CfEM efficacy trial. You can read the report of the trial here.
The trial found that students of teachers in the full intervention group made an estimated one month of progress in comparison to the control group. The more deprived students made an estimated two months' of progress in comparison to the control group.
In the CfEM trial, over half the teachers in the full intervention group (taught five research lessons and took part in five lesson study cluster meetings) agreed that the use of the Teaching for Mastery lessons had prompted a change in their practice, and just under half the partial intervention teachers (taught five research lessons) agreed. Fewer than 20% of the respondents in each group disagreed.
Dave, Sarah and Lewis all took part in the CfEM efficacy trial. Here they tell us how their teaching has changed as a result of the trial.
Dave explains that taking part in the cluster meetings and teaching the mastery lessons changed his thinking about teaching maths.
Sarah tells us about how her teaching has been transformed.
Lewis describes how his lessons are different now because the students talk about the maths.
